before UK Patent Office, EPO and OHIM in patent and design matters and supervision of Patent

Renewals and Records staff. Own clients transferred to Langner Parry. Electronic, pharmaceutical and mechanical subject matter. Successful handling of EPO Oppositions and Appeals and Restorations  before UK and foreign patent offices. Received bonus in 2004 in recognition of success. Responsible for interviewing, selecting and training Technical Assistant.

June 2000-December 2001

Involvement in US federal court and Interference proceedings for own client. Negotiated substantial

reduction in US legal fees. Cryptography and Internet-related drafting work.

June 1998-June 2000

Set up new London offices with improved meeting facilities. Most work now for direct clients including Natrocell Ltd (natural pesticides).

December 1994-June 1998

Set up London office in Regent St. Set up one of the first patent agents’ websites and began a gradual shift to direct clients, particularly Tricorder Technology plc (3D scanning and image processing) including drafting the IP section (with Anthony Martino) of their AIM prospectus. Drafting, prosecution and legal research for Laurence Shaw and various major London firms of patent agents included work on satellite TV, fractals, encryption, and software-related inventions as well as derivatives of naturally occurring therapeutic compounds. Work for company patent departments, including GEC and Motorola (mobile telecoms) continued.

August 1986-December 1994

EPO prosecution work (mainly industrial chemistry eg adhesives and polymers but including some

electrical work) and involvement in EPO Oppositions and Appeals for Langner Parry on a regular basis until late 1996, including attending Oral Proceedings at the EPO. Legal research for Withers & Rogers and Laurence Shaw.

May 1985-July 1986

Technical Assistant at R G C Jenkins & Co, initially to Keith Beresford. Prosecution of mainly Japanese-originating electronic patent applications and drafting for UK clients. The subject matter included optical, electronic and opto-electronic systems. I also assisted Keith in preparation of a defence in patent infringement proceedings.

October 1980-May 1985

Technical assistant in GEC Patents Department. Initially mechanical and subsequently electrical and electronic and some chemical drafting and prosecution.
